How Will it Happen?

Building works will take place on two parts of the Broomfield Hospital site:

  1. The South Construction Site, where the main new hospital building will be built.
  2. The North Construction Site, where the new FM Centre and its associated multi-storey car park will be built.

The South Construction Site is now largely ready for construction to commence. This follows demolition of the East Wing, the Old School of Nursing and the Diabetic Centre. The site offices to be used by Bouygues have already been installed.

The North Construction Site is more complex, as it is closer to key parts of the hospital. Before construction can start, work will need to take place to ensure that ambulances can continue to access the Accident and Emergency Department and use the Urban Square to turn around and leave the site. The former Transport Office and the Rowans will need to be demolished (they are already vacant) and key utility services will be lifted onto an overhead gantry to ensure they are not disturbed by works in the ground.
